I'm starting to catch up on my sleep and is it ever good to sleep in my own bed. Returning home to Dana and the kids is always a highlight when I'm out with the youth. As much as I love my times with the teens...there's no place like home!

For anyone who has been following our journey to Port Arthur, Texas and back, whether you are a youth, parent, prayer partner, or generaous supporter, I have got to tell anyone who will listen that God is soooo good and He is moving powerully in our youth group. The MVP Youth Mission Team members are all troopers and I am proud to serve alongside each and every one of them...from the youngest freshman to the oldest volunteer. Everyone stepped up to the plate and, with the Holy Spirits help, hit a home run!

So much happened throughout the course of our journey that you can't possibly get a true sense of it all through a few words typed on the keyboard. When you have the chance, pull aside one of the members and ask them what their favorite part was. I have no doubt that they will be able to sit you down for a few hours to regale you with many anecdotes and testimonies.

As Trevor mentioned, I also want to encourage everyone to come to Youth Sunday on Sunday, July 30th to hear their personal stories, see some video and pictures, so you can get a greater sense of the excitement we all have from our trip.

My greatest prayer is that you will be able to see the "mountain top" experience each of us had and that although we may not be able to manage to stay on top all the time, that we will never go back to the valley from whence we came! May God bless you and all your loved ones.

Your Servant In Christ,
Michael Udlock, MVP Youth
Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries
Mountain View Presbyterian Church

Monday, July 17 - The End

Monday, Trevor

Thank you all of you who have been reading these things called blogs, but this is the end and the last one of the trip. We left Grace Community Baptist Church, after our little fiasco last night, around 9 am. We hit the ground running toward home, we decided to use interstates the whole way home. About that, it would be faster to go straight up from Texas, but I’m not in charge. So we ate breakfast at Sonic, which is like ten times better then McDonalds. We stopped for gas before we got on I-70. Where we all crammed into the vans and kept going. We didn’t stop until lunch at Dairy Queen and did our last program on self-control. We are almost in Colorado we have been sleeping most the way and writing cards to each other. Well, Thank you for all your prayers and contributions to the group. We will be home by the time you read this. But we will see most of you at church on Sunday. I hope everyone comes to youth Sunday in two weeks to hear the full details of our trip. Thank you again. See you all soon. Well we are heading home and it is pretty sad. We had a long day in the car and since Chris gave us homework that says we have 20 notecards and we have to right something about every person and what fruit (of the Spirit) most fits them best it made it even longer. It got us all thinking about each other and what they were like and how good of a time we had with every single person. We stopped at Whataburger for lunch and then after that we had Sunday worship at this church park and it was pretty amazing. After that we loaded up in the van and drove to Wichita and ate at the Village Inn. Before I get to what happened at the restaurant Mike was worried all day that we hadn’t heard from the church that we were supposed to stay at. So at village inn Micheal started to talk to locals at the restarant and he brought up that we weren’t sure that we had a place to stay that night so before Micheal could say anything the lady named Ruth called her pastor and found us a place to stay if we couldn’t stay at the other church. After the couple left Micheal came over to Codi(me), Jason, amber, and Kellye and told us about the couple. He started by telling us about the B.T.K killer and his last known victim was the couple’s daughter. That was pretty sad. Ruth later called Michael and told him that we were the most wonderful group of kids she met, so that was pretty cool. That night things didn’t really work out with the first church so we then stayed at Grace Baptist Church. We finished the day with prayer and we all went so sleep. Can’t wait to see you all!!

CODI HILLIER

Saturday July 15 - Water, Water, Everywhere!

Saturday, Meredith

Hey everyone!!! Today we went to Schliterbahn Water Resort. It was really cool, I liked the German theme it had. There were so many rides and rivers and stuff that they had to have two separate parts to the park. The water at the park was mostly coming directly from the river near by. Leigh Anne, Gracie, and I only got to go on one ride because it took forever to find the ride we wanted and then the lines were about an hour and a half long. Some of us got temporary tattoos at the water park. Jason got his initials, Sam got a dragonfly, Gracie got a cross, and I got my group at school’s initials (GGA). As far as I know, none of got sunburned, but a few of us have bruises or are sore from the rides. The water made the heat almost unnoticeable, which was very cool for us! We stayed at a Super 8 Motel and worshiped by the pool and hot tub which was awesome because some of the people that were swimming joined us. We are all exhausted and can’t wait to be home! Besides my parents, I personally miss my cell phone and my cat, Snickers the most. On Friday morning we went back for the morning to the work sight to do the last minute works like nailing pieces of covering to the roof. We then gave the home owner John Williams a bible for him and his wife. We then said goodbye and went back to The Sheperd’s Inn. We all took last minute showers and packed. Lastly, we said goodbye to the inn owner, she was very sweet. Then we headed to San Antonio to the Riverwalk and went out to evangelize to people which was very cool. After about an hour and a half to two hours, we went to stay at Covenant Presbyterian Church for the night and we had a small worship at like after 11’oclock and then we went to bed and then that’s where Saturday comes in. We still had some last minute details to work on though at the home we were working on. When we got back to the Shephard’s Inn we were asked to take a vow of silence for 3 hours! It was painful, but there was also a lot of drama going on and I think we all needed sometime to relax and think about things. I wasn’t cool with it then but I now realize why we needed to. We needed to be reminded that we are here for God and His works not for the people we are always with. We were then sent off to bed without saying goodnight to the others and woke up the next morning feeling refreshed and a bit tired. We were looking forward to Schlitterbahn and heading home to our families. So far, everyone has been doing good, and we are all in good health. Sarah Champ seems to be looking better everyday! I am thrilled to be seeing you all soon! Hope life hasn’t gotten too boring without all of us teens there! Well, this day wasn’t as exciting as I thought it would be, but I’m thankful nonetheless!

I LOVE YOU ALL OR SHOULD I SAY ALL YA’LL
Sam

Wednesday, July 12 - Halfway There!

Wednesday, Korey

Well seeing as I’m having a doodle dingdong dickens of a time trying to figure out how to start this I guess I’ll just get right down to it. Everyone here is crazy. But God is doing such amazing things! I’m pretty sure I’ve seen everyone in this youth group break down at least once. It is so amazing! One more thing I’d like to add is that things have been so amazing that I haven’t had time to right this until today, Friday, so if I accidentally divulge things that have happened since Wednesday please forgive me.

So, um, yeah. I guess everything started out like the two days before it. Michael came into our room threatening and stomping like he has almost everyday since this trip began and pretty much dragged the sleeping bag off of Nate. After doing some muttering of our own, Nate, Russ, Akers, and I got up got dressed, rushed into the main sitting room after being told we would be left behind if we weren’t there in less time then it took to get the vans started, and then, of coarse, we had to wait for another fifteen minutes for the girls to lope lazily in and complain about how tired they were. Poor little newbs. After we all made it over to the Williams’ the workday started in earnest. Not as strenuous as Monday, and not half as bad as Tuesday, when we pitted ourselves against the nastiest pile of refuse ever, but we still put in a good days work. Around 10:30 Terry, for all intents and purposes our foreman, took us over to his church to help move some stuff around. At one point his church was full of 3-4 inches of standing water in the sanctuary, but they still found ways to support the community, and we moved around some headboards for those that had lost theirs. A couple hours there and we headed back for the church for lunch, a couple of games of chess (I dominated Sam there by the way) and headed over to do our lesson and VBS. Once we got to the church Michael introduced us to a long time friend of his, Joel. They had been in a kind of touring contemporary group and it didn’t take the youth group long to figure out what Michael liked in Joel. Ever ready with a joke of some bit of humor (mostly at himself) Joel was a great addition to the group while we had him. VBS passed quickly, and what seemed like an extremely short time after we had first meet him, Joel was packing up his 12 string guitar and getting ready to head back to Houston after another amazing night of worship. During this time Joel also shared his testimony, which let me tell you was as God-filled as any I’ve heard. I don’t think I could do it justice over the internet, but I’m sure any of the youth would love to share it in person.

That pretty much sums up the day, and now that you’ve read this incredibly long entry, I’d just like to say good night and God bless from all of us’n down here in Texas. There of a lot of things that happened that I just need to type. First I got started on the roof and Trevor and I got our knees dirty by nailing shingles up and really breaking a swet. Then after we got done nailing the shingles up we put the final touches on the roof to make it complete. That's right a roof complete in two days. Then after the roof was done it was time for me to work in the house and boy was it a mess. There was rat bones and mold everywhere. Yucky! Well we tore down the dry wall and made the walls look a little better but we have some more work to do. Then it was time for a good lunch, which consisted of pb&j 's. After lunch a few of us men went back to work and I got to complete another project that we had been working on. Then with no showers we went to go have an amazing lesson about the good lord. I was moved in the direction of Christ in so many different ways it was amazing. Then we helped with the church with there VBS and those kids are crazy. But there kids of god so I love them. Then when that was all over we had the most amazing worship in the world. And that was the day of Tuesday.

Tuesday Sam:
It has been quite an adventure being here and learning new things! I have been looking forward to this mission trip for a while now, and am pleased to say I have only missed out on two whole days! Today, we went to put shingles in a roof, thanks to Mike's expertise, we were able to complete it! I conquered my fear of heights with the help of others. After that, we got some nice bagel sandwiches and met a super sweet dog! We all decided it was quite a long day! Most of the guys were out back trying to dig out a BIG slab of concrete while the others worked inside to repair some of the water damage. Everyone put in a good days worth of work, and couldn't wait to get home and take a soothing, and quite relaxing shower. Then, we got the news. We could take 5 minutes each because Shepherds Inn needed to turn off the water, we rushed about and got through them pretty quickly. We had some free time and got to know each other better then ever! We walked down to the church where VBS was being held, and we ate great hot dogs and learned more about David and Goliath. (We also had one detour as we had to take Sarah Champ to the ER to get a prescription for an infected finger suffered from an injury before we left, she has not been feeling great and could use any prayers) Once home, we all needed a calm down time, we went and worshipped, and settled down, unfortunately, Michael set a new bedtime at 10:30, so we all were sad to be going to bed early, but knew we would be well rested enough to wake up early the next morning.

Monday July 10 - Our first day on the job

Monday - Russ:

Hello all, greetings from Port Arthur, Texas and from the youth. Monday was a crazy day; the craziest day yet. We all got up at 6:30 am and headed off to the worksite which was extremely difficult considering the time change and the fact that many of us are still in the deep sleep cycle at that time. The worksite was a run down house; damaged by the hurricane. The roof was torn up and many parts of the ceilings were about to collapsed. We initially split into two groups: one for the roof and one to fix the ceilings. I was in the ceiling group and we started by taking out the china in the room. After clearing the room, a demolition group was formed and charged with the task of ripping a ceiling down. While that group started their work, myself, Nate, Korey, and Jon were chosen to go with another relief helper named Terry Hamilton. This guy was just the nicest guy and had the most amazing gospel worship music you have ever heard. My group drove to another house and put a giant blue tarp over this ladies house to protect her from the constant down pours. After that was finished the four of us headed back to the original worksite to finish up the ceiling. It was amazing to see this collapsed ceiling completely gone and replaced with a brand new one. The roof group was also making progress, more than half of the roof was finished. We ended up leaving the house was a lot of work done but not everything finished.
So that was the workday, exciting to be sure, but nothing like what happened later that night. We did our program that night on the fruit of the spirit: peace. It was good but uneventful. The exciting portion of that day was the worship at about 10:00 pm. It started off just like normal worship; very passionate and sincere. But then the Spirit of God came to us and stirred our hearts up. The passion and longing for God grew exponentially and the Spirit of God could be felt. I'm talking about the tangible feeling of knowing that God is with you. You just knew he was there. It was simply awesome. Many of us broke down and just wept. The love that was shown in that worship time was unlike anything I have ever felt or witnessed. Personally, I was filled with true brotherly love, phileo love. It was incredible to be worshipping with my brothers and seeing them totally lost in the love of God. The entire experience was absolutely amazing and even though many of us cried, I know that many of the tears shed were tears of joy. I know mine were.

Russell Geroche

Monday Amber:
Being the first day of really getting to work here in Texas, I was pretty blown away by how much this mission trip was going to blow me away…physically and mentally. The first day waking up was hard, but pretty tolerable. We went to the worksite and met the house that we would be working on for a while. While we were there people were doing so much work it was amazing. The house was in such sad shape it made me thankful for what I have. It didn't look too bad until we really started getting to work. There was a junk-yard like pit in their back yard full of just trash and bugs and rotted treasures. The grass in front of the fence was flooded and there was mucky mud all over the place. The roof was in pretty bad shape and so were the ceilings. Some people helped with the roof, some people helped tear the ceiling down and put it back up, some people helped with the junk-yard, and so on. I did a little bit of all those things. I started off rapping things and moving things out of the room. I did part of the ceiling but then ended up leaving because there were too many people in the room. Then I went to go help with the junkyard. It was filled with bugs and rotted things and I ended up leaving because of the smell and all the bugs. I ended up on the roof and helped the guys by getting them things. But the most amazing part of the day was worship. Vance started us off with some awesome songs and his passion brought joy into every ones heart. Then we listened to Michael's testimony and we all just fell down to our knees with tears in our eyes. God touched every ones heart in such an amazing way. There were people just praying prayers out loud and there were people singing songs with no music and there were people just praying together. It was absolutely amazing. No body went to sleep until at least 1 in the morning and no body cared. I could have stayed up all night if God called me to. I never wanted to leave. The way God just showed up and touched all of our hearts that night was just awesome. I have never seen anything like it,

Sunday July 9 - Worship at Lakewood Church

Sunday: Vance

As we started our day on Sunday it was very evident that we had just gone through two very extreme days of driving. However that did not change the spirit in our group. It might have helped the fact that we all knew this morning was going to be a time of either feeling very uncomfortable or complete and utter worship towards God. This day we headed off to Houston to go to the largest church in America. As I learned people have been known to plan their entire summer vacation on attending this one church.

I personally have been looking forward to this experience ever since I knew it was a possibility. As we got in there a joke we all had was the idea of what if we got introduced or what if we got on stage because we are the traveling youth group going to help people out. We walked into their sanctuary, well I will put it this way, it used to be the stadium for I believe the Huston Rockets. The idea of that kept me in awe, some may think well church cannot be as personally when there is 9,000 people worshiping with you. What kept me inspired was the fact that what a beacon of light to this city. If you have never seen it, you are driving down the highway and there is a huge church with a very welcoming feeling. The people inside were no less that welcoming. I sat down and a lady in front asked where we were all from and why we were here. She sat and talked with us for about an hour. I looked around and almost everyone in our group was talking with someone we didn't know. Not even about what we were doing but just about God's glory and sharing the ways in which He has entered our lives.

The service started, worship was simply put as outstanding, passion filled the room as we danced around, some sat and was still before God. But every single person was touched in some way by this. One thing that has stuck into my mind was after the welcome. As most churches do the asked those who are brand new to the church to raise our hands we did and instead of seeing people smile at them maybe shake their hand and say, “Nice to see you at worship.” People from all around turned around hugged us all and they made it very clear we were not just another person there, there was a sincerity in their voice and eyes that can't fake anything. They were genuinely so happy to be worshiping with us. Then my jokes and dreams came true. The lady who was standing up there said, “It is my understanding that there is a group from Loveland, CO that is traveling through here to do missions and recovery work down in Port Arthur. I personally want to thank you and say how much we appreciate your help here.” I could not believe that a church that had about 9,000 people attending this one service, (note they have 5 services with about that many people attending each one) would take time to thank a group of maybe 20 who came down there.

So I don't ramble on for another 3 pages I will try and wrap this up. Our sermon was amazing as well, unfortunately the head pastor, Joel Osteen, was out of town so we did not get to see the world renowned pastor but I don't necessarily think we were cut short of anything. Marcos Witt preached a sermon on miracles. Very passionate and people would clap and stand up when he made an amazing point. Our service ended and every person had been inspired in some way, we decided to make a trip to the bookstore, now I understand you are sitting here going well why are you telling me what everyone bought. The only reason why I bring this up is the fact that people would come up to all of us and thank us for our work. Some people were prayed over, in a lack of better terms we were almost celebrities. That just lifted up my heart because we were not just another group to come through, people actually care as a whole what we are doing.

As a closing I would like to thank you all for all of your prayers, please pray that we continue to grow together as a group united in Christ. Please pray that we can serve with love in our hearts, also please pray for some people that we can try and minister to. Already we can see the harvest is plentiful. Just pray the workers will not be few.

In Christ,
Vance Carrier

Kellye - Sunday:

Like every year on the mission trip something happened to church van. The vans battery died on us in Sugarland. In the girls room we saw a cockroach that Codi killed and some of the guys were giving us a really hard time about it too. We went to Lakewood church. Vance was about to have a heart attack because of how happy he was. It was a really good service. Two ladies that were sitting close to us were very helpful and they were helping us with the names of those preachers. They also announced during the service that we were there from Loveland, Colorado and going to Port Arthur. After the service we all went to the book store. When we finally got to Port Arthur most of us were so happy that we finally there. Most of us were sleeping most of the way. Last night we met two girls that were really happy to get to know us. They actually came to our night worship. The other thing that happened to the church was Mike U. ran over his computer case. The computer case died but the computer is fine. The rest of the trip has been good. It's really amzing how thankful the people are that live here that we are here. It's heartbreaking is see how his people have been living since Katrina and Rita.

God bless and see ya soon,
Kellye

Saturday July 8 - From Oklahoma to Houston

Saturday July 8: Alex

Hello, today we had another loooooong trip. It was an interesting ride. We are all doing fine. We drove through Houston Texas and then to Sugar Land Texas, it’s really hot and your skin turns sticky, but thankfully we got to take shower, half of us anyway and the other half tomorrow morning. We miss you all and we will keep you all in our thoughts. Texas is like Africa or Hawaii, fun, no its not. We also went out to eat a lot and we all slept a lot too, like me for example. We are studying the fruits of the spirit, last night we studied love, and tonight we studied joy, and we sang our hearts out to our Lord and Savior during worship time. We are heading to Port Arthur Texas tomorrow and starting to work in the hot humid weather Monday, fun! So long for now, I love you Mom and Dad.

Saturday July 8: Lindsay

Just another day of sitting in the car, driving, with the same people, would seem to leave little room for any variation of experience. Day two on the road, however, proved to be full of plenty of new surprises. The night before, we were greatly blessed to stay the night at the beautiful church that Nancy’s brother attends. The morning got off to a great start when we actually left on time. Some in the group felt unusual joy beginning in their day; however, some of us weren’t so lucky. I, unfortunately, was a part of the latter group. Satan obviously being aware of our mission to glorify his opposing kingdom, began to hurl obstacles at us in a physical form and a handful of us experienced minor, but unforeseen, sicknesses… But with the Lord on our side, we were able to access His incredible power with some serious prayer, and sickness could not persist against it. A few hours later, we arrived in the Sugarland area, and the entire van knew it because a few of the boys gleefully awoke the otherwise sleeping kids with the wonderful news that WE LANDED ON THE MOON! You may not understand what in the world they were referring to…but that’s okay…because we still don’t either. Dinner was great upon the recommendation of the local experts (Michael’s good friends from the area) and the night subsided with our exploration of the concept of God’s always-accessible joy in our lives. I really think that God was pleased with our worship, and we all were blessed with the depth of our small group discussions. The only interruption to a beautiful night came in the form of a native Texas insect, affectionately referred to as the cockroach. Showers were badly needed and by the time everyone was through with theirs, we headed off to bed at about one in the morning. Cockroach-roaming, hard church floors were never so comfortable. Thank you for taking interest in what we’re up to. Your prayers mean so much to all of us. Thank you and God bless,

Friday July 7th - On the Road

Friday, July 7 – Gracie

Our trip started out pretty quiet because, well, everyone was asleep. When we actually switched seats and got to “meet” new people there was still a lot of sleeping. However some conversations became very philosophical. There was a consensus that sleeping was the main priority. Some car games were involved. There was a little eye spy and some poker going on but don’t worry no money was involved. There were years of servitude being used instead of money. Kansas is so boring but we did have the entertainment of Kellye throwing the Frisbee on the roof of the rest area restroom. We received a complement from a lovely older couple with their grandson at the park. We had some more "free seating" after lunch. The majority of this time was used for Nate and Corey to argue over why or why not McDonalds was the best. Then we switched seats again and got to listen to our own music. However my and a couple others experience was quite fun when Vance taught us his “best Moves”. We had Wendy’s for dinner. Which totally is better than McDonalds contrary to popular belief. Last night we got to the First Presbyterian Church between nine and ten almost to tired to worship. However when we started to sing God lifted us up and it was a great night. The sanctuary we worshiped in multiplied the sound of our voices ten times over, which made it an incredible experience. We learned about love and what God’s unconditional love does for us. Also how we should show unconditional love through our lives. The girls had Nancy “reserve” us the Red room. Which of course had all the comfy couches and great soundproof walls. We didn’t have to listen to Michael’s snoring. It was the best and most deserved good nights sleep in my entire life. Which takes us to tomorrow…

Friday July 7 - Nate

Hello my blog spot viewers. This is Nathan Geroche and I will be talking to you about the first Friday of trip. I am writing on a Mac so bear with me. We all arrived at the church at 6 to leave for Oklahoma. Waking up that early after viewing a movie showing at midnight was semi-difficult. But never the less we got to the church, prayed, and then hit the road. We drove for a long time with breaks every two hours. The first ride was free seating. I sat in the rental van and slept for most of the time. Everyone else pretty much slept as well, it was nice. We were allowed to listen to our very own personal music devices for this first two hours. Now don’t get me wrong, being able to have our own music was a great blessing, but everyone was sleeping in the beginning so nobody took advantage of this wonderful gift. I would suggest better timing from the master of impeccable timing if you know what I mean. We stopped at a park for lunch where we ate our sack lunch. Thanks for the sandwich mommy! After that we drew lots for our seats. Once again people choose to sleep the full drive and so by the time we were supposed to switch seats again, everyone wanted to remain in their seat and stay asleep. And so it was. We stopped and ate Wendy’s for dinner. Then finally arrived at Nancy’s brother’s church for our nighttime rest. They church had this massive room full of very comfortable couches. Being the men of God we are, we willingly gave the couches to the ladies. Being the awesome ladies they are, they accepted them for themselves. We had our worship and program on love. It was a good one. A couple of us guys played some midnight b-ball, and Korey, Akers, and I dominated the other team. Six trillion to negative six trillion. Then we went to sleep on the nice hard floor. I am sure those couches treated the ladies very nicely. I slept really well after taking off my schweaty shirt. So that was the Friday of love that we spent on our mission trip to Texas. Thanks for your prayer support, it was and is much appreciated. Have a good time in Loveland. God bless. We appreciate all the prayers and support we have received from everybody back home and hope that this is a forum where we can let all of our loved one's in Loveland and elsewhere share a little bit in what we are doing.
We will be doing a study on the Fruit of the Spirit while we are gone, learning about Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control. We will have a different lesson each day we are gone. We will also be able to do some fun things while we are gone as well, spending some time on the San Antonio Riverwalk, at the Schlitterbahn Waterpark, and worshiping at Lakewood Church.
We hope you will read about what we are doing, and we encourage you to leave your comments encouraging us as well. Thanks.

Chris
